Chapter 4 — Migrations

5 live recipes against docker PG verifying the migration lifecycle. Run with DATABASE_URL=... cargo test --test cookbook_chapter04_migrations -- --test-threads=1.

  • §4.51 / 4.53 / 4.54 / 4.61 — migrate(&pool, &dir) applies pending, unapply(&pool, &dir, name) rolls back. Verifies schema catalog before + after. → apply_then_unapply_round_trip
  • §4.55 / 4.57 / 4.58 — Migration { name, prev, scope, atomic, snapshot, forward: Vec<Operation> } with Operation::Schema(SchemaChange) + Operation::Data(DataOp { sql, reverse_sql, reversible }). Externally-tagged JSON: {"schema": {"CreateTable": "..."}} / {"data": {"sql": "...", "reverse_sql": "...", "reversible": true}}. → migration_serde_round_trips_schema_and_data_ops
  • §4.56 — embed_migrations!("migrations") baked into the binary at compile time; EMBEDDED.iter() enumerates the migrations the current cookbook ships with. → embedded_migrations_const_is_loaded
  • §4.59 — AlterColumnType / AlterColumnNullable / AlterColumnDefault (and friends) round-trip via the same externally-tagged JSON. → alter_column_ops_serialize_with_external_tag
  • §4.64 — AddCompositeFk { table, name, to, from, on } / DropCompositeFk { table, name } (v0.15-F.5b) round-trip. → composite_fk_ops_serialize_round_trip
